JANUARY 2005

Hello and Happy New Year! So far 2005 has been one deadline after another.
My art has been the thing keeping me on my toes for the last couple of
months and lots has been happening. First of all
"Somerset Studios" magazine asked if they could write an article on my
hand painted photography and my art. I've been subscribing to "Somerset
Studios" for awhile now and they are a terrific magazine all about Mixed
Media art. Out of that first meeting I have been working on other
articles for them that will be coming out in their magazine all this year.
- The first article
called 'Pieces of Art' will be in the March/April edition of 'Somerset
Studios' magazine.
-
When I was asked if I would be part of the "Butterfly
Initiative" to paint a butterfly that will find it's home at the
Santa Ana Zoo, I was thrilled. Orange County is placing large metal
sculpted butterflies around the city of Orange County. However
when they said large I was amazed to see this very large butterfly that
stands over 6 feet tall and has a wing span of 5 1/2 feet delivered to
me. It's been a fun project to work on, though much larger than I
have been used to. I was invited to the Santa Ana Zoo and was able to go
into many of the animals cages to take pictures with which I am making
photo mosaics on the wings. Click the link for more information. That's
me (left) with my butterfly before it got painted. Need
less
to say it's been a big project at the busiest time of the year...but I
am working feverishly to complete it before my deadline of the end of
the month.
-
The end of the month I am heading to New York City to attend the Gift
Show there. My photography has been licensed by the company
Mollycoddle and they are previewing this new line at the show.
They are putting my artwork on handbags, Giclee canvases, coasters and
tiles. More information will be forthcoming as I receive it.
- October of last
year was fantastic. When I was 10 it was a dream of mine to go to the
Aran Islands in Ireland. After I attended a convention in
Coventry, England my hubby and I flew to Dublin and met up with our
kids. We rented a car and drove all around Ireland. It was a
fantastic trip blessed with great weather and wonderful adventures.
I took tons of photographs and I bet you can guess what my next exhibit
is in April of this year at A STUDIO GALLERY. It was a great Christmas
present to us all.
-

-
some self timed pictures taken in Doolin, Ireland
-
-
I've also been getting ready for the HOLGA
CHALLENGE a new exhibit that will be at
A
STUDIO GALLERY.
- It's
a group show and there are some fantastic photos all taken with the HOLGA
Camera. The HOLGA is a toy camera that costs around $19.95 and you
should see the amazing photos it takes. Well worth seeing if you are in the
area. The photographs are all available for purchase.
- The
Artist Reception is January 9th from 5:00pm - 7:00pm but the show runs from
January 10th through February 11th.
-
-

-
"Dublin Energy" is one of my photos that will be shown at the exhibit.
- I've also launched a new website concentrating on my art.
www.acartwrightstudio.com . Check it out when
you get a chance.
- Well I
guess that's it for now. I will try to keep these Updates up-to-date
as things unfold.
- Till
next time keep safe and smile.

UPDATE
APRIL 2005

Spring has arrived. I found this photograph of me taken when I was about 8
years old. That's an Angela Cartwright dress, purse and hat that I wore on the
Danny Thomas Show. Doesn't seem like so very long ago that I wore a pony tail
and frilly under slips under my poofy dresses. It donned on me the other
day that I have been in show business 50 years now. When I think about
that, it sounds like a really long time, but some of the memories seem like only
yesterday. This photograph (left) was taken by Chris Larson aka Christian
Du Bois Larson, a photographer who shot hundreds of photographs of me during my
"Danny Thomas' days. I've been trying to get in contact with him and not having
much luck, so if anyone knows him or his son, drop me an email. Lots going
on in my life right now, especially with my photography art. This update will
bring you to date.
I finished the butterfly for the City of Santa Ana I referred to in the January
update. Here it is, a mosaic with hundreds of photos that I
took
of the animals at the zoo. It was a real challenge, but I really enjoyed
painting it and using my photographs to create a one of a kind sculpture. I like
working this big and I hope to do more large work in the future. The butterfly was
dedicated to the Santa Ana Zoo in March and I was asked if I would ride to the
Dedication area on an elephant! It sounds odd but I had never ridden on an
elephant before so I enthusiastically said yes. High atop Dixie, the 8000 lb
elephant she took the sheet that covered my 6 foot butterfly in her trunk and pulled it off
in front of a cheering crowd. Dixie did a terrific job, and I can now say I
have ridden an elephant. Everyone should do that at least once in their life.

In January I headed to the New York Gift Show to unveil my
new line of Italian leather handbags, decorative tiles and Giclee canvases, all
with my handpainted photography on them. It was very exciting to see all
the wonderful products that Mollycoddle LLC has come up with. The handbags are
beautifully made by Florentine Artisans of buttersoft leather. The tiles
are made in America of tumbled marble and ceramic tile and I'm really pleased
with the way my images appear on them. Here are a few of the designs, but if you
want to see the entire line soon everything will be up on

Other exciting news was the article that
magazine did on me and my art. It
was in the March/April issue called "Pieced in Color." It was the beginning
of a great relationship with this artistic and creative company. Since this article I've been doing other articles for
the magazine that will appear in later issues. Stampington & Company has also
licensed over 60 of my images for 3 series' of artist papers, vellum papers and
transparencies. I can't wait for these to come out in a couple of months
so I can start using them in my art. I hope other people enjoy using my
photographs in their art too. With Somerset Studio I've been working on a book "Transparent Art"
concentrating on art techniques with a whole section where my artist friends used my transparencies in their
artistic creations. Art has opened up a world of contentment for me and I
am passionate about creating art that expresses who I am and the way I see the
world around me. For more on my
art, I created a new website
www.acartwrightstudio.com So
check it out if you want to learn about this part of my life.
Me and Jenny Doh, Editor of Somerset Magazine and her daughter
Monica.

Here are a few samples of my altered art
with my photo images.
You
can see the whole article by going to

- I have also been working relentlessly on my new exhibit
"Inis: Forty Shades of Green" which debuts on April 17th at A Studio Gallery in
Studio City. This exhibit is close to my heart and features the
photographs I took on our recent trip to Ireland. I hand painted over 40
images and I hope it captures the beauty and ruggedness of this magical island.
If you can't make it to the gallery, I hope to have photographs from the exhibit
up on my website
www.acartwrightstudio.com in the near
future. Many of these images have been licensed and will appear on the tiles,
giclees from Mollycoddle LLC and on the Artists papers that Stampington & Co. are
creating. I loved creating this show for it holds fond memories of our
family trip and my visit to a place I have wanted to go since I was 10 years
old.
-
- I also have been creating CD booklets for my pal Bill
Mumy. He has lots of music coming out so make sure you check out his
website when you get a chance and read his April update on the latest in his world
www.billmumy.com
.This year not only marks the 40th anniversary of 'Lost In Space' but it's the 40th anniversary of "The Sound of Music"
too, and it has certainly made me reflect. Could it have been that long ago when the memories are so
clear in my mind? Guess so, just goes to show how quickly time flies, so
you better make the most of every moment...carpe diem and all that.

The
family is healthy and happy and busy as bees. Becca and Jesse are preparing to
produce their first Independent film together and the house has been strewn with
camera equipment, paperwork and computers preparing for their start date.
It's a great project and I can't help but be proud of their enthusiasm and
commitment to making a good movie. I'll keep you posted on their progress
as I am the official photographer on the set.
Here's some show biz news...Jesse was on JAG in February and did a great job as
Petty Officer Willard.
I will be attending Chiller in New
Jersey the end of the month. I'm bringing along my 'Sound of Music' buddy
Heather Menzies Urich - who played 'Louisa' in "The Sound of Music".
www.heathermenziesurich.com That
should be fun, I hope you'll come by if you find yourself in the area.
I guess I'll wind this up now, but will keep
you posted.
Keep Smiling,

UPDATE
JUNE 2005
-
- Here
it is June and life is keeping me busy.
- I
headed off to
with Heather
Menzies-Urich in April. It was fun as always to head back east and visit
with some friends in the city.
-
-
-
Here's some pictures of Heather and me at the
convention. It was great to see Annie Lockhart again and catch up.
And it was wonderful to see Cindy (my fan club president) who traveled from
Rhode Island to help me at my table. She got an exclusive interview with
Heather for an upcoming
,
my fan club newsletter that she creates 4 times a year. Thanks to everyone
that showed up for a visit.
Someone brought this ink sketch which was fun to see.
-
Legacy Magazine came out with the article I wrote on
my Mosaic Journaling. It a technique I use with my photographs and
they titled it "Angela's Art: Turning Photos into Shimmering Mosaics" I've
put the whole layout on my
www.acartwrightstudio.com website in the
articles section. If art is something you enjoy, check it out.
I'm very excited about a book Stampington is releasing in October called
"Transparent Art". Stampington is creating transparencies from over 60
of my photographs and I suggested a book idea to the good folks there
showing all the various ways transparencies can be used in ones art. They
loved the idea and the book has come to be. I had a great time rounding up
some of my artist friends and asking them if they would incorporate my art
transparencies into their art. Wait till you see what they came up
with...

Heather became a Grandmother for the second time when son
Ryan and his wife Mikki had their first child Lana in May.
Here is Debbie Turner, (who flew in for the celebration),

website for pics of her new grandchild.

There are
rumblings that a new 'Penny' Collectors doll is on the
horizon. That's pretty exciting. I was never made into
a doll for 'Lost In Space'.
It got me thinking of all the dolls I have become and
thought I would share them with you here...

During the series run of "The
Danny Thomas Show" the Linda Williams doll was created
in three sizes. 1) The smallest size and the one you see
on EBay every now and then. 2) The larger sizes.
The large one walked if you held her hand. Pretty
inventive for that day and age. 3) A loved Linda doll in
her red gingham dress. 4) Here I am with two Linda dolls
sent to me. 5) The Brigitta doll by Madame
Alexander - circa 1992 in a dirndl. 6) The
Brigitta doll by Madame Alexander - circa 1998 in the
sailor suit. I'm even holding a book like I did in
the movie when I entered the scene in this costume. 7)
Two Brigitta dolls together.
-
And last
but not least my kids have finished principal filming on
their Independent movie they produced. It's a pretty
creepy flick, but I couldn't be prouder of the work they
did on it. We'll see. Show biz is a funny business.
Also Bill's got a new website... with a new look... check it out!
www.billmumy.com
On a sad note I lost a dear
friend of mine in May, Michael McLean II. Michael was one of the
casting directors for 'The Sound of Music' and he has been a dear friend
ever since. He was so generous with his guidance and expertise. I hope
wherever he is he gets to sail as much as he wants to. He will always have a
special place in my heart. It makes me reflect on all the service men
who have given of themselves for their country and for us. They too are
always in my thoughts and prayers.
Till next time,

Hello...
-
-
I have been so
remiss in keeping up my website but to say I have been busy would be an
understatement. Where has the summer gone?
In July the "Sound of Music" troops were called together for a weekend to
celebrate the 40th anniversary of the movie. It started out with
a get together at Heather's house where our real family members joined
together with our movie siblings to catch up on old times. My
parents came into town, my sister Veronica and brother Chris.
Heather's sister Sheila and brother Neil, and Kym's sister Francie.
Nicholas had flown in his mother Eileen from across the country and she had
not seen my parents in 35 years. It was a blast.
-
-
The next night was the "Sound of Music Sing-A Long" at the Hollywood Bowl.
We were introduced to 18,000 attendees who had came to sing
a long with the film. If you have never been to the sing-a-long and you love
this movie, bring a bottle of wine and sing to your hearts content.
I was amazed at how many people had been every year!
-
-

The following day we gathered together for interviews for the new DVD
40th Anniversary edition of the movie 20th Fox is releasing.
When this group is together we always have lots of laughs and memories.
A good time was had by all.

I was sad to hear
of the passing of Robert Wise and sorry he wouldn't be with us to
celebrate the
40th Anniversary of the film he directed. He left a legacy of fine
motion pictures, but "The Sound of Music"
touched so many peoples hearts. Robert Wise cast me in my first motion
picture I made "Somebody Up There Likes Me"
in Paul Newman's break out role. I was just 3 years old and played
Paul's daughter, Audrey.
Bless you, Bob. I will always treasure
the films we made together.
-
I was also thrilled last month to reunite with someone I hadn't seen in
a long time. I was asked to give an Award to my favorite TV Mom,
Marjorie Lord. It was wonderful seeing her again. What a gracious and
beautiful woman she is. I was pleased to see that
she has written a book
and I have sent for mine just recently. You can find out more
about her book "A Dance and a Hug" and more about Marjorie and our Danny
Thomas Show years together at her website
www.marjorielord.com . It
certainly has been a few months of reunions
for me.
-
-
There
have been other things keeping me busy. Art for one. The book I
collaborated on for
Stampington & Company
has
been released. It's called "Transparent Art" (that's one of my
transparencies that Nina Bagley used in her art piece on the cover).
The
book is all about the use of transparencies in altered art. If you love
this form of expression as much as I do, I really think you will
enjoy
this book. Stampington & Company has also released 3 collections of my
images in artist papers, vellums and transparencies and
I
continue to write articles and make art for Somerset Studios magazine
and their publications. It's all very exciting.
-
- 'Breakthrough',
'Mosaic Seasons and 'Bench for Zen Birds' have also been licensed by ArtBeats and the New York Graphic
Society
to be made into posters. There are seven images total and three
of those are available now.
-
Thirstystone has
also licensed several of my images to put
on their sandstone coasters. I can't wait to see those.
-
-
-
I also am preparing for my exhibit
'Mission Statement' opening November 5th at Mission San Juan Capistrano.
The
exhibit will be there till December 15th.
-
-
I also opened a
storefront at
www.CafePress.com/acartwright so
my art would be available on note cards, journals, t-shirts and other gift items. Just in time for the holidays...
check it out when you get a chance.
-
-
You can read
more about everything pertaining to this part of my life by going to my
www.acartwrightstudio.com website.
If you click on PhotoArt and the Echoes collection you can see my 40
handpainted images that I shot in Austria in celebration of the 40th
Anniversary of making the movie
"The Sound of Music".
-
-
I'm off to New York in November for more "Sound of Music" events. Try to
catch the whole gang on "Good Morning America" November 11th. So I'll sign off for now with an
introduction to Peyton, our newest family member that is bringing much joy into our lives.
-
Till next time,

UPDATE
DECEMBER 2005
-
Well here it is almost the holidays. I decked
the halls this weekend, it
always puts me in the Christmas spirit and it will be here before we
know it.
November 5th was the opening of "Mission Statement" my Exhibit at San Juan
Capistrano. It was a lovely evening and
the backdrop of the mission all full of lights was a wonderful backdrop.
It was great having my family and
friends there and I was so glad the night was successful for the
mission. My exhibit, 'Mission Statement' was
displayed until December 15th, 2005.

'The Sound Of Music'
40th Anniversary was celebrated in New York City. The entire group of
kids' were sent to the big apple to attend a gala event to celebrate the
release of the 40th Anniversary Edition of the
movie on DVD. It was fun to see everyone again...we always have a blast when we are
together. The next day we
appeared on 'Good Morning America' with Julie Andrews. Who would have
thought making this film, 40 years later
we would all be celebrating it this way.
