THE BEGINNING
PART 1 |
|
I was born on September 9th in Altrincham, Cheshire,
England. When I was one we left Great Britain and
arrived via Canada, in Los Angeles, California. My sister Veronica and I found time to step out at the
beach.

Here are two of my favorite
pictures.
My Mom reading with me and my Dad carrying me. |
| MY CAREER BEGINS...at age three |
Totally by accident, I was sent on an interview for this
Sparkletts Water label for their bottles. I got the job, it
was my first modeling job at the age of three. The cover of McCalls magazine followed.

|

Lots of modeling jobs followed.
|

My first television job was for a 'GE Special'. That's me
sitting in the bathtub. The first time my sis Veronica and I
worked together was in an 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' called
'The Swartz Methaclude Method.'
|

In my first movie role I played "Audrey' in"Somebody Up There Likes
Me, where I played Paul
Newman and
Pier Angeli's daughter.
You can catch it sometimes on the late night movie and on DVD.
It was Paul Newman's first movie role.
Soon after, I was cast
in "Something of Value," a movie starring Rock Hudson and Sidney Poitier.
|
|

In 1956 I was cast as "Linda
Williams" in the Danny Thomas television series,
"Make Room For
Daddy".
It also starred Marjorie Lord as my Mom, Sherry Jackson and Rusty Hamer
as my step-siblings.
The crazy antics of the Williams family delighted America. We filmed
the show every week in front of a live audience.
|
"The Danny Thomas Show" ran for 7 seasons and we left the
airwaves in the number 1 position.
|
We always had tons of Guest Stars on our show. Some of the biggest names in show business at the time. Like Andy
Griffith and Ron Howard, whose visit on our show, as a
sheriff and his son,
would spin off into their own series "The Andy Griffith Show". Guests included Paul Anka, Perry
Como, Bob Hope, Joey Bishop, Lucille Ball, Milton Berle, Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, Annette Funicello, just to name a few.
|

While filming the show they marketed
numerous "Angela Cartwright " toys, games and clothes. I used to wear the Angela Cartwright line of clothes on
the show every week.

|
My favorite toy was the "Linda" doll that came in three
sizes. It was fun to play with the dolls in the three different sizes and it was cool that
the large doll walked.

|

It was about this time I cut my album "Angela Cartwright
Sings." With such hit tracks as '64 Tadpoles,' 'The kids on
my block,' and 'Mr. Jumbo.' My favorite was "Don't
grow up too soon" that I sang with my Dad. They wrote singing
and dancing into some of the episodes of The Danny Thomas Show and I got to perform. |
I hosted two specials for CBS. The picture
on the left is from "Ghosts, Goblins and Kids" with Jay North and Teddy
Rooney. The whole show was a cast of kids singing, dancing, playing
instruments, doing gymnastics and whatever else they had a talent for. It was so popular
they asked us to do another one entitled "Children are People" which I hosted
with Jay North (left) and Jerry Mathers (right).

There I am in "Babes in Toyland" in The
"Shirley Temple Storybook." Believe it or not, Shirley Temple
played the witch.
|
There's Jay North from "Dennis the Menace" and Jon Provost from
"Lassie" trying to dunk me in the pool. It was all in fun...
 |

Emmy Awards with Danny Kaye and Lucille Ball,
Presenting an Emmy Award to Gene Kelly. |
In 1961 during hiatus from the
"Danny Thomas Show" I played "Angela," the
daughter of Carroll O'Conner, in the film, "Lad: A Dog". I love animals and
working with Lad and the puppies was a lot of fun. I fell in love with this breed and own a
Sheltie Collie today. This is a story of a collie named Lad, who saves me from a
rattle snake, gets me out of my wheelchair and able to walk again, and
heroically saves the day. Peggy McCay and Peter
Breck also starred. It's a great movie for the kids to see.
|
This was my parrot 'Danny' that
Danny Thomas gave to me. My Mom was expecting while I was filming
"Lad :A Dog." Shortly after filming ended, my brother Christopher was born.
