Angela was born in Altrincham, Cheshire, England and moved to Los Angeles, California with her family when she was 3 years old. She worked as a child fashion model and by the time she was four, Angela was well known by the top photographers and appeared on magazine covers and numerous advertisements. At the age of 3, she made her film debut in ‘Somebody Up There Likes Me’ as Paul Newman¹s daughter. She also appeared in ‘Something of Value’ with Rock Hudson.
Danny Thomas signed Angela when she was 4 to play his daughter Linda Williams on the television series ‘Make Room for Daddy’. The series ran for 7 years, during which time Angela also starred in ‘Lad: A Dog’, a movie for Disney. Following The Danny Thomas series she was cast as Brigitta in the movie ‘The Sound of Music.’
In 1965, she was offered the role of Penny Robinson in ‘Lost in Space’ a television show that ran for 3 years. In the years following, Angela guest starred in numerous television shows, commercials and movies.
While continuing her acting career, Angela raised two children and in 1981 she wrote a nationally acclaimed book, ‘My Book: A Child's First Journal’. In early 2007 Angela partnered with artist Sarah Fishburn to co-author the book “In This House - A Collection of Altered Art Imagery and Collage Techniques”. Her second book “Mixed Emulsions – Altered Art for Photographic Imagery” was released in November 2007. This book was inspired by her recent collections of altered art ‘Beyond the Pale’ and ‘Soul Dwellings’. A third book for Quarry Books "In This Garden - Explorations In Mixed-Media Narrative" will be released in Spring 2009.
Angela also conceptualized and contributed to ‘Transparent Art’, a book on how to use transparencies in art. She has written numerous articles on photography and altered art techniques for ‘Somerset Studios’, ‘Belle Amoire’, ‘Somerset Memories’, ‘Life Images’ and ‘Art Doll Quarterly’ magazines. In addition, Angela has taught classes on her art techniques. Stampington & Company has released Angela Cartwright Artist Papers, three collections of her images as artist papers, vellums and transparencies, and two lines of rubber stamps called 'The Unruly Shadows‘ and 'Unruly Girls Club’ made from Angela’s sketches. Other partners in licensing Angela’s art are the New York Graphic Society, ArtBeats and ThirstyStone.
