PART 2 |
When "The Danny Thomas Show" came to an end after 7 successful seasons, I was
interviewed to play "Brigitta Von Trapp" in a little movie that 20th Century
Fox was making titled "The Sound of Music". I sang and danced on the audition.
Danny Thomas released me from the last show so I could begin
working on this movie. For that I am so grateful.
"The Sound of Music" took
about a year to film. We recorded the songs, learned the dance routines,
traveled to Salzburg, Austria for about 3 months and completed the shooting
back at 20th Century Fox Studios. It was the experience of a lifetime. |

This is one of my favorite pictures. It's a shot of us rehearsing the bike scene during 'Do,Re,Mi'. I'm holding my elbow because I just fell off my bike. If you look closely during the bike scene, you'll see my scraped knee. But the show must go on. That scene took a lot of practice and precise timing. I think my wheel caught on the back of someone else's wheel. Hey it's all in days work. It looks alot easier than it was.
|
This picture was taken right before Julie Andrews won the Academy Award for best actress in 'Mary Poppins.' We were thrilled for her. Julie was alot of fun to be around. She taught us how to sing, 'Supercalafragilisticexpialidocious' backwards!. I can still sing it to this day.
That's Pamela Denova our dialog coach who kept our British accents sharp, and Heather Menzies (Louisa) on my left. Heather and I bacame the best of friends and we drove everyone crazy with our Beatle songs. We were inseperable, and are still the best of friends today.
|
That's Robert Wise directing us in the 'My Favorite Things' sequence in the movie.

Robert Wise didn't know it when he cast me as Brigitta in the movie, but he had hired me once before in my very first movie "Somebody Up There Likes Me." Bob had given me the stuffed mouse he's holding in this picture and I asked him if he would sign it for me. He couldn't believe I was the same little girl he had cast in that movie.

- When we performed on stage in Satzburd at the end of the movie we filmed in this beautiful old outdoor theatre. They brought in people off the street to fill the seats because the theatre was so large. When we sang 'Edelweiss' there were tears in the eyes of the audience. Maybe it was because it was freezing that night. Or maybe the song touched them.

'The Sound of Music'
has continued to be a wonderful memory to this day. The seven of us
'kids' returned to Salzburg, Austria in November 2000 where we filmed a documentary
for British television. Returning to where we shot the film was an
experience I'll never forget.
|
Over the years there have been many premieres and celebrations of
'The Sound of Music'. Here we are at the 45th Anniversary Celebration at the Hollywood Bowl. I am proud to have been in a film that has touched so many people over the years.

Heather and I were flown to Austria in 2002 to film the
MOVIE LOVERS ROAD TRIP. We had such a blast. It was during this
trip I shot photographs in the many locations that we shot the film.
